STRIVE 2022 Summer
Internship Program

APTIM has successfully completed its second year of STRIVE, a 12-week summer internship program designed to provide qualified students with paid opportunities to apply their academic skills and knowledge toward meaningful, engaging, and fulfilling work assignments. Students that participate in STRIVE can expect to gain valuable insight into industry best practices, receive hands-on training from experienced mentors, and contribute their own unique ideas and unique perspectives to complete real-world assignments.

This year, STRIVE supported nearly two dozen students from around the country looking to gain experience in areas like architecture and engineering, environmental sciences, coastal resiliency, sustainability and energy solutions, remediation, marketing analytics, graphic design and proposal management.

Led by Holly Castello as the STRIVE coordinator, each intern had a supervisor and a mentor to guide them through their projects. The group of interns met virtually each week to discuss their work and learn about the others’ projects and attended biweekly “Coffee Talks” where an APTIM professional met virtually with the interns to describe their role and perform project deep dives. The STRIVE Summer Internship Program was named with APTIM’s Thrive Mentoring Program in mind, which aims to promote professional and personal development and growth through sustained relationships between mentors and mentees.

“The STRIVE intern program nearly tripled in size in 2022,” Castello said of the program. “The coffee talks were such a hit last year that we decided to increase them to a weekly basis in 2022. We loved hearing from some of APTIM’s subject matter experts as they discussed their respective projects and takeaways from their own career path. Additionally, we incorporated a few learning and development sessions in areas such as: business communication, resume writing and interviewing tips, and conflict resolution.”

Castello continued, “I think everyone agrees that the highlight of the program was our in-person “STRIVE LIVE!” session at the end of the summer. The STRIVE team huddled with a handful of early career professionals and senior leaders to collaborate and offer innovative solutions that will continue to make APTIM a great place to work. It is my hope that the STRIVE program continues to grow each year and that many STRIVE alumni will soon rejoin APTIM in a fulltime capacity. We STRIVE to be extraordinary.”
