Empowering Our People: APTIM’s Approach to Employee Engagement in Safety

At APTIM, safety is more than a protocol, it is a partnership. As we recognize employee engagement during National Safety Month, we reaffirm one of our core safety values: every employee has the power to shape a safer workplace. By fostering a culture where safety is a shared responsibility, APTIM is empowering employee engagement by encouraging individuals at all levels to actively contribute to our health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) outcomes.

When our people are encouraged to speak up, lead safety moments, report concerns, and share lessons learned, we move from compliance to commitment. The result? A resilient, safety-first environment where our teams thrive.

Why Employee Engagement Matters

Engaged employees are essential to APTIM’s success. Research shows that an involved workforce is more likely to follow protocols, prevent incidents, and contribute to a positive safety culture. But at APTIM, we take this further. APTIM is empowering engagement and encouraging our people to own safety.

Our Approach to Safety

  • We listen. From tailgate meetings to site-specific safety walkthroughs, our team has a voice.
  • We train. Through HSEQ programs that evolve with our industry, we equip employees with the tools they need to lead safely.
  • We learn. Our Lessons Learned platform ensures that every experience becomes an opportunity to improve.

Engagement in Action: APTIM’s Best Practices
  1. Activating participation through safety tools: Employee engagement starts on the ground. Through Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Daily Tailgate Safety Meetings, team members assess conditions in real time and drive hazard mitigation. These tools are not top-down mandates; they are employee-led opportunities for proactive risk management.
  2. Training with purpose: Ongoing education is vital to keep safety knowledge fresh and actionable. APTIM’s HSEQ Training Program delivers accessible, role-specific training, empowering employees with confidence and competence on the job.
  3. Sharing lessons, building knowledge: Our Lessons Learned Program transforms incidents into insight. By sharing stories in an open, no-blame environment, we encourage curiosity, innovation, and awareness across teams. It is one of the ways we build a culture of continuous improvement.
  4. Fostering accountability with “If You See It, Own It:” Our safety philosophy centers around shared responsibility. With the power to pause work, report concerns, and suggest improvements, every employee is a safety leader. “If You See It, Own It” is more than a tagline, it is a mindset we live by.
  5. Celebrating the wins: From project milestones to national recognitions, APTIM celebrates success. Recognition reinforces positive behaviors and reminds our teams that safety achievements are worth celebrating.

Engagement Drives Outcomes

Engagement isn’t optional; it is essential. APTIM has seen firsthand how engaged employees drive measurable improvements across the organization.

  • Incident prevention
  • Compliance adherence
  • Team collaboration
  • Client satisfaction

Whether on a refinery turnaround, at the office or at home, our people are the key to delivering work safely and effectively.

The Path Forward: Safe Together

As we observe National Safety Month, we challenge every APTIM team member to ask:

  • How can I make my workplace safer today?
  • Have I shared an observation or lesson recently?
  • Am I empowering others to speak up?

Because at APTIM, safety is not what we do, it’s who we are. And together, through engagement, we will continue building environments where everyone goes home safe, every day.
