APTIM and Joint Venture Team Awarded Construction Management Association of America Project Achievement

The Woodlands, Oct 19, 2018 (Issuewire.com)  - APTIM and joint venture partners Michael Baker International and Gannett Fleming, have been awarded a Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Project Achievement Award in the category Water/Wastewater: Construction Value Greater Than $50 Million, for its work upgrading the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Brooklyn, N.Y.

APTIM was the managing partner of the joint venture team that provided comprehensive construction management services during the final phase of the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) upgrades. The enhancements more than doubled the plant’s capacity and brought the facility into compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requirements — allowing the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) to meet critical Consent Decree Milestones.

Serving approximately 1.06 million people, the Newtown Creek Waste Water Treatment Plant in Brooklyn, New York is the largest WWTP owned and operated by the NYCDEP.

The team successfully delivered four major contracts with 12 prime contractors. Totaling USD 1.2 Billion, the project was delivered under budget and ahead of schedule while the facility remained in continuous operation.

“We performed this contract in a true “One Team” culture that fostered open communication, partnering with all parties and stakeholders, and pro-active management to identify and resolve project challenges before they adversely impact the project’s performance. This award is a testament to our “One Team” approach and is shared with all parties,” said Paul J. Gretsky, PMP, PPE Managing Director of the APTIM/Baker/Gannet Fleming JV and APTIM National Director for Program & Construction Management.

The project’s past awards include: 2018 Project of the Year – local NY/NJ CMAA Chapter; 2017 Diamond Award from ACEC for Engineering Excellence; 2017 ACEC National Engineering Excellence National Award for Public Projects; 2017 ENR New York/New Jersey Region Project of the Year; 2014 Project of the Year by the Engineer’s Society of Western Pennsylvania.
