Sustainable Sport Index
Sustainable Sport Index (SSI) provides world-class insights that inspire action, foster collaboration, and serve as a tool for sports and entertainment venues in pursuit of a better, more sustainable events industry.
Now in its fifth year, SSI is an annual survey and benchmarking report analyzing sustainability practices in professional, minor league, and collegiate sports venues. For the first time this year, SSI is providing participants with a ranking of their performance for each category of sustainability. We encourage all venues to participate regardless of where they are in their sustainability plans by providing an anonymized analysis of self-reported data measuring:

Of the 70 sports venues participating in SSI:
- 32% of venues are tracking GHG emissions
- 58% of venues reported sponsorship revenue increased because of sustainability programs
- 80% of venues use native plants in outdoor, landscaped areas
- 85% of venues have LED lighting in over half of venue spaces

SSI Frequently Asked Questions
This first-of-its-kind initiative is providing sports venues with a sustainability benchmark based on key performance indicators. Results help the industry understand what it does well and what opportunities exist for improving environmental and social impacts. Additionally, individual participants will receive a customized, confidential report specific to their performance against their peers, allowing them to celebrate where they excel and plan for opportunities to improve in the future.
No, all answers will be reported anonymously and shared as part of a data set of all respondents. If your venue requires a non-disclosure agreement, contact our team at SustainableSport@APTIM.com.
Participation is at no cost for venues and teams! All participating teams and venues receive a customized, confidential report comparing their performance to the rest of the respondents.
We are seeking data from professional, minor league, and collegiate stadiums, arenas, and field sports facilities at this time.
Contact us at SustainableSport@APTIM.com to participate. We will send you a custom link to the survey that allows you to save responses and return to the survey when you are ready to submit. To simplify the process, it is recommended that you download the questions in advance to collect your organization’s data for easier input. You can do this by clicking on the printer icon in the upper right-hand corner of the survey.
Yes, most questions are not required, and you can skip questions. However, the more complete your responses are, the more accurate the overall benchmarking results and the more useful your customized results will be.
