Sustainable Sport Index (SSI) is a first-of-its-kind initiative, using self-reported survey data to analyze the environmental and social practices of professional, minor league, and collegiate sports venues to produce an anonymized benchmarking report.

Sustainable Sport Index (SSI) is a first-of-its-kind initiative, using self-reported survey data to analyze the environmental and social practices of professional, minor league, and collegiate sports venues to produce an anonymized benchmarking report.

Now in its fourth year, SSI is an annual survey and benchmarking report analyzing sustainability practices in professional, minor league, and collegiate sports venues. We encourage all venues to participate regardless of where they are in their sustainability plans by providing an anonymized analysis of self-reported data measuring:

  • Energy and Greenhouse Gases
  • Waste Management and Diversion
  • Communication and Fan Engagement
  • Sponsorships

2024 Key Findings & Report Features

Of the 65 sports venues participating in SSI:

  • 86% have a sponsor for venue sustainability programs
  • 55% conduct annual staff sustainability trainings
  • 28% produce on-site renewable energy

The SSI Benchmarking Report is a thought leadership publication produced by APTIM. Participation and reports are available at no cost. APTIM’s Sustainability Solutions team can provide additional support to our participants to set targets, implement programs, and manage data collection.
