Stay up to date on the rulemaking status of the Universal Waste Aerosol Rule, Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements, and Pharmaceutical Rules.
Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements
Published in the Federal Registry November 28, 2016, the Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements Rule simplifies requirements for how hazardous waste is managed and closes important gaps in the regulations to improve compliance. States with changes from the previous edition are noted.
Pharmaceutical Rule
Effective August 21, 2019, the regulations (Management Standards for Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals and Amendment to the P075 Listing for Nicotine) establish and streamline standards for the management of hazardous waste pharmaceuticals for healthcare facilities and reverse distributors.
The primary change to the regulations was the addition of Subpart P (40 CFR 266)–Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals. However, modifications were also made to 40 CFR Parts 261, 262, 264, 265, 268, 270, and 273. These regulations focus on better serving the healthcare sector, eliminating sewering of hazardous waste pharmaceuticals, and better managing nicotine replacement therapies.
