APTIM Selected as Program Administrator for Hurricane Ida Sheltering Program

On Sunday, August 29, exactly 16 years to the day that Hurricane Katrina devastated Southern Louisiana and much of the Gulf South region, Hurricane Ida made landfall in Port Fourchon, LA as a Category 4 hurricane with top winds of 150 mph – a tie for the fifth strongest hurricane to ever hit the mainland U.S. While the state works as quickly as they can to wrap up power restoration, many residents who had excessive damage to their home or lost it entirely are still without proper shelter.

In response to the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Ida in Louisiana and the potential for future events, the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) has selected APTIM to manage the Louisiana Hurricane Ida Sheltering Program. The program will secure appropriate and immediate sheltering for survivors, provide oversight and management of the sheltering options to include Non-Congregate Sheltering, and assist in the transition to FEMA’s Direct Housing Program as applicable. “As a Louisiana headquartered company, APTIM is excited and proud to serve the citizens of Louisiana and our partners at GOHSEP in their recovery from Hurricane Ida”, stated William Deane, Vice President of Critical Infrastructure.

The “Louisiana Hurricane Ida Sheltering Program”, official program name, was launched successfully on October 4, 2021. This program will secure appropriate and immediate sheltering for survivors, provide oversight and management of the sheltering options to include Non-Congregate Sheltering, and assist in the transition to FEMA’s Direct Housing Program as applicable.

Eligible residents can register at IdaShelteringLa.com or via telephone at (844) 268-0301. If residents need other recovery assistance from Hurricane Ida they can visit www.getagameplan.org.
