City of West Miami Vulnerability Assessment

APTIM conducted a comprehensive vulnerability assessment for the City of West Miami, identifying climate change-related risks and developing actionable strategies to enhance resilience, safeguard infrastructure, and protect the community.

Project outcomes include:

  • Conducted detailed exposure and sensitivity analyses for the city’s critical assets, identifying 3 medium- to high-risk focus areas and prioritizing 23 resilience efforts
  • Developed a climate adaptation roadmap, including nature-based solutions and capital improvement recommendations
  • Identified several potential funding sources to support the implementation of hazard mitigation measures
  • Engaged the community through two workshops and meetings and an ongoing community survey to align with stakeholders’ needs and priorities

Project History

Florida Statutes 380.093 created the Resilient Florida Grant Program, which recognizes Florida’s vulnerability to adverse impacts of flooding due to climate change and seeks to provide a comprehensive assessment to support regional resilience.

The City of West Miami commissioned APTIM to complete their assessment of risks from climate stressors such as storm surge flooding, sea level rise, and compound flooding. This entailed data collection, flood scenario modeling, sensitivity analysis, and public outreach to shape strategies that balance technical recommendations on infrastructure risks with local priorities.
