APTIM PFAS and Coastal Resilience Work Honored by Environmental Business International Inc.
The environmental consulting firm was awarded for industry leading PFAS work and collaboration on the Florida Adaptation Planning Guidebook 2024.
San Diego, Calif. (March 13, 2025) — APTIM has been honored by Environmental Business International Inc. (EBI) for industry leading PFAS work and advancing best practices in coastal resilience throughout 2024. The environmental firm was recognized in each of EBI’s business achievement award programs, Environmental Business Journal (EBJ) and Climate Change Business Journal (CCBJ), administered by the respective publications.
APTIM received the EBJ Industry Leadership award for the firm’s Flask to Field™ work in PFAS, completing more than 100 PFAS projects since 2016. APTIM’s PFAS team performs historical records reviews, forensic analysis, and sampling of all environmental media types at federal and commercial sites globally. They conduct research and development for US EPA and the Department of Defense, including treatment case studies used by water utilities to address PFAS in drinking water. Since the establishment of the first federal drinking water standards for six PFAS, they expanded their remedial design and groundwater treatment work to support private drinking water wells and larger scale municipal supply. APTIM has also completed AFFF removal at 44 facilities, with an additional 57 facilities awarded in 2024.
“APTIM is proud to be a front-runner in investigation, modeling, remediation, solid waste, rapid response, and research and development of PFAS—one of today’s most significant public health challenges,” said Laura McNamara, PE, PMP, APTIM Sr. Project Manager/PFAS Lead. “In 2024, our experts shared their findings broadly in several journals and were featured in EBJ’s Remediation & PFAS Market Report. Whether our work takes us to the lab, field, or boardroom, our top priority remains applying cutting-edge research and innovations to protect communities.”
APTIM received the CCBJ Advancing Best Practices: Coastal Resilience award for providing guidance and grants management support to Florida municipalities to reduce physical risks associated with flooding and climate-driven hazards. The firm’s coastal engineering experts partnered with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to update the Florida Adaptation Planning Guidebook. The project engaged more than 300 stakeholders to develop a guidebook explaining how to develop an adaptation plan and a matrix of 30 metrics-driven, resilient adaptation strategies categorized by relative cost. To further support communities with funding, the guidebook presents 51 funding streams to reduce costs of resilience strategies and deliver significant, scalable savings for Florida communities.
“Hurricanes, intense rainfall, storm surge, compound flooding, and sea level rise—these are just some of the climate risks that pose a real threat to communities in Florida and across the globe,” said Samantha Danchuk, PhD, PE, APTIM Climate & Coastal Resilience Lead. “The National Institute of Building Sciences estimates that every $1 invested in hazard mitigation yields up to $11 in societal savings through federal mitigation grants. APTIM’s experts in resilience and grants management are proud to help protect Floridians and their homes, while enhancing their communities through both resilient infrastructure and cost savings.”
This is the second year in a row that APTIM received the Industry Leadership award, winning last year for the Sustainable Sport Index. The firm also took home the EBJ’s Project Merit in GHG Mitigation, Social Contribution, and Information Technology awards in 2024. APTIM is proud to be a global provider of integrated services to the government, commercial and industrial, and energy and utility markets.
The EBJ and CCBJ awards will be presented live and in-person at the Business Achievement Awards banquet at Environmental Industry Summit XXIII from April 2–4 in San Diego.
