PFAS Remediation for Town of Mashpee Water District
Contract Scope/Services Provided
APTIM’s team of PFAS specialists performed a time-critical response action to modify the Mashpee, Massachusetts, Water District Potable Water Supply Treatment System to remove the emerging contaminants perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) to levels below the EPA Lifetime Health Advisory (LHA) of 0.07 ug/L. APTIM designed and constructed this highly complex GAC treatment system incorporating it into the existing system on an active water treatment plant. APTIM designed, constructed, and configured the GAC vessels to achieve the desired empty bed contact time (EBCT) to remove the PFOS/PFOA under the operational requirement of 600 gallons per minute, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year in order to ensure that tap water is safe to drink.
