How to Participate in APTIM’s New Sustainable Retail Index

Our new tool to transform your retail business through customized, actionable, and exclusive sustainability insights launches May 1.

APTIM’s Sustainable Sport Index (SSI) launched five years ago as a first-of-its-kind tool providing sports venues, leagues, and teams with critical insights about their sustainability performance. SSI offers participants clear data points to help justify investments in sustainable technologies, policies, and programs to key stakeholders. Since its inception, participation in SSI has grown by 225% and now features nearly 40% of US-based professional sports venues.

Recognizing the value we have provided to the sports industry and the growth experienced with SSI, APTIM’s Sustainability Solutions team asked an important question: How can we deliver these same critical insights to other industries?

Hence, the Sustainable Retail Index (SRI) was born.

What is the Sustainable Retail Index?

SRI is an annual benchmarking on sustainability performance within the retail sector based on self-reported data, offering an analysis of best practices from leading retailers. Here’s how it works:

  1. Survey: Participants complete a survey on their environmental performance, covering topics such as energy and greenhouse gases, environmental resilience, supply chain sustainability, and waste diversion. Our goal is to engage retailers at all stages of their sustainability journey to provide a more accurate understanding of the state of the industry.
  2. Data Analysis: Retail and sustainability experts at APTIM analyze responses to uncover trends, common challenges, and shared solutions. We prioritize data security and ensure confidentiality by anonymizing responses.
  3. Reporting: To share key findings, we produce a free, publicly available, anonymized benchmarking report. In addition, participants receive complimentary individualized reports comparing their performance and responses against their closest peers.

What Makes the Sustainable Retail Index Unique?
  • Customized Reports: Individual reports are designed to strengthen your business case for investments in sustainability. Insights are presented in a way that makes it easy to communicate ideas to company leadership, supported by direct and specific peer benchmarking. As an annual survey, SRI also helps build your justification through nuanced year-over-year comparisons.
  • Actionable Insights: While other sustainability reporting and rating systems primarily assess broad impacts, risks, and opportunities, SRI evaluates operations and practices at store locations across your portfolio, as well as throughout your supply chain, helping to improve your company’s overall footprint.
  • Exclusive Features: All survey data featured in our public benchmarking report is aggregated and anonymized. However, participants are invited to submit case studies showcasing innovative sustainability efforts to inspire and instill confidence in other retailers.
How to Participate

Survey sign-up opens on May 1, and participants will have until June 13 to submit their responses.
