Decommissioning Of The St. John River Power Plant, Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA)

Jacksonville, Florida

APTIM performed the decommissioning, dismantlement, decontamination, abatement, and demolition of the 1,600-acre St. John River Power Plant (SJRPP) in Jacksonville, Florida. The facility was a large coal-fired electric generating plant featuring two turbine/generators that could each supply 632,000 KW to the transmission grid. We managed the execution of the work through the completion of the decommissioning, imploding SJRPP’s two iconic cooling towers. Work included disconnecting and/or separated all electrical and mechanical equipment/systems for “cold, dark, and depressurized” plant status in preparation for demolition. We also continued operation of wastewater treatment, potable water, and fire protection systems.
